A 63-year-old man who stole a tips jar from the Mannin Hotel, in Broadway, Douglas, has been fined £150.
Peter Francis Shields, of Tynwald Street, Douglas, was seen on CCTV taking the jar with an estimated £20 from the bar on July 11 and putting it inside a carrier bag. Staff later called the police.
Shields admitted a charge of theft.
Representing himself in court, he said: ’I can only apologise for wasting court time. I’ve got no reason to steal anything.’ He was ordered to pay £50 costs and £20 compensation.
