A 23-year-old Douglas man has been sentenced to 50 hours’ community service for cannabis possession.

Luke Michael Callister, of Lheannagh Park, admitted having £16-worth of the drug at the Milestone garage in Douglas on July 21.

The offence was committed while Callister was still subject to a previous 100-hour community service order imposed in November.

Defence advocate Rebecca Cubbon said: ’The facts are straightforward. Mr Callister is growing up, he knows his behaviour has to stop.

’He has assisted police and showed them where the cannabis was.

’In his own words he does need to "wise up".’

Ms Cubbon went on to say that her client had completed the previous 100 hour community service order but was still under supervision.

’He has a steady job at a recycling plant,’ said the advocate. ’He is risking a lot for such little gain. His family is in court standing by him. It will be disappointing to see him back for a similar offence.

’He is a hardworking individual, he simply needs to make better choices.’

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Callister to pay £50 prosecution costs.
