A faulty brake light proved to be the undoing of a Douglas man whose van was 10 months out of tax.

Prosecutor Barry Swain told Douglas magistrates police followed the Vauxhall van along Strang Road towards Union Mills, in Braddan stopping it when they noticed a brake light was not working.

When they spoke to the driver, 45-year-old David Alan Lamb, of Robert Stephen Close, Douglas they noticed the tax disc had expired in August, 2016.

Lamb told the court the tax had been renewed and backdated and it had been an accidental oversight. He was fined £100 with £50 costs.
