A man who used cannabis for self-medication has been handed a conditional discharge.

David Anthony Teare, aged 20, of Springfield Road, Douglas, admitted having £44-worth of cannabis and £12.50-worth of alprazolam.

A court this week heard how Teare was in a car on South Quay in Douglas on August 13 when he was spoken to by police.

A search found three snap bags of cannabis weighing a total of 2.2 grams and 2.5 alprazolam tablets.

Teare is currently the subject of a two-year suspended sentence but this August offence pre-dated that offence.

Defence advocate Paul Rodgers told the court that his client used the drugs to self-medicate for long standing mental health issues.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes sentenced Teare to a two-year conditional discharge for each offence, to run concurrently.
