Two men have admitted assaulting a 14-year-old boy and taking his mobile phone.

Craig Jack Anderson and Simon David Lomax attacked the teenager at Sydney Street in Douglas, throwing punches at him and stamping on his phone.

The pair, who both live at Demesne Road, Douglas, pleaded guilty to a joint charge of common assault.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that police were called to Robinson’s on the Terrace at 3pm on August 14 after a report of three males fighting.

After the incident Anderson, who is 27, and 39-year-old Lomax were said to have followed a 14-year-old boy to Sydney Street with Anderson then pushing him in the chest and then punches being thrown at him.

Anderson was then said to have stamped on his phone, which had fallen to the ground, before taking it.

Mr Kane said that the two men did not know the teenager but had thought he had been involved in the fight.

No significant injuries were caused.

Anderson also pleaded guilty to another common assault, committed at the hospital on May 30, wasting police time committed on June 4, and possession of cannabis committed on August 13.

The wasting police time offence was said to have involved him making a false report that he had hidden drugs in his anus, which caused police to believe that immediate medical attention may be required.

Anderson is also due to face a trial on November 5 in summary court for a common assault which he has denied, alleged to have been committed on December 27.

His advocate Louise Cooil asked for sentencing for the guilty pleas to be adjourned until after the outcome of that trial.

Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks adjourned the case until October 12 when it will be due for mention. Anderson made no bail application and was remanded in custody.

Lomax also pleaded not guilty to a charge of knowingly being a passenger in a vehicle taken without consent, alleged to have been committed on August 25, and a pre-trial review will be held for that on November 11.

His advocate Sara-Jayne Dodge asked for sentencing for the common assault to take place after the outcome of any trial for the motoring offence.

Bail continues for Lomax, with a curfew in place between 8pm and 8am, and conditions not to enter Harcroft Meadow in Douglas, not to contact witnesses, and not to leave the island without court consent.
