Detectives says inquiries are continuing into a series of arson attacks in central Douglas which they believe to be linked.

Police patrols were stepped up in Mona Street after a number of deliberate fires were set and apparently targeted at one individual.

A white Ford Focus parked in the street was set alight at about 9.15pm on Sunday, January 6. And fires were lit at the front door of a property in Mona Street at an unknown time the following day and at 2.50am on Wednesday, January 9. Fortunately, fire crews were able to deal with the incidents quickly and as a result no one was hurt.

But police said the fires did have the potential to have caused significant harm.

They believe the fires are connected and were specifically targeted towards one individual.

A spokesman said: ’This is still an ongoing inquiry.

’There have been no further arsons in the area since and at this present time there have been no arrests.’

Police have renewed their appeal for witnesses who were in the area of Mona Street on the relevant dates and may have noticed anyone acting suspiciously.

Officers have urged the public to remain vigilant while their investigations are ongoing.
