A motorist from Bride has admitted drink-driving.

John McCallion, aged 54, of Ayre View, failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 57. The legal limit is 35.

He also admitted a licence offence and having no insurance.

Prosecutor Michael Jelski told the court how, on May 22 at 8.35pm, police saw McCallion driving in Ramsey town centre.

Due to the manner of his driving he was stopped on Bride Road.

He was asked if he had been drinking and said he had drunk three pints.

McCallion failed a roadside breathalyser test and was taken to police headquarters where he failed a further test, with the reading of 57.

Checks also found that he had no valid driving licence.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that a probation report be prepared before sentencing, which will take place on July 10.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that McCallion reside at his home address, contact probation, not drive, and not leave the island without permission.
