A 34-year-old man has admitted eight offences, including forging an insurance certificate.
Halim Uddan, of Castlemona Avenue, Douglas, pleaded guilty to two counts of obstructing police, having no insurance, having no vehicle licence, not displaying ’L’ plates, failing to comply with a traffic signal, failing to produce a driving licence, and forgery of an insurance certificate.
The court heard how, on January 3 at 2.30am, Uddan was stopped by police at Castlemona Avenue.
The vehicle was not taxed and Uddan was asked for his details.
He gave a false name and address to police which was not discovered until later.
Computer records showed that the name he gave did not match the description of the person he named.
He also produced an insurance certificate in the false name
He was asked who Halim Uddan was and claimed that was his uncle in the UK.
Once at police headquarters, Uddan finally admitted his real name and details.
He admitted he had taken out insurance in another person’s name as he only held a provisional licence himself and had lied to police as he was scared.
Magistrates ordered that the case be adjourned until March 27 to allow time for the preparation of a probation report before sentencing.
Bail was granted with conditions that Uddan reside at his home address and not leave the island without court permission.
