A motorist has admitted failing to provide a sample of breath after crashing his van into parked cars.

Ffinlo James Christian, aged 30, of Castle Hill, Douglas, failed a roadside breathalyser test but then refused to take a test at police headquarters.

He will be sentenced on January 14 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court how police were called to Station Road in Ballaugh on September 1 at 4.09am.

Christian’s van had collided with three parked cars and he was said to be smelling of alcohol, slurring his words and unsteady on his feet.

He failed the roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested.

However, once at police headquarters Christian refused to come out of his cell or take a breathalyser test.

Defence advocate Jerry Carter asked for a probation report to be compiled before sentencing with input from the Crisis Team.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500.
