A man who left his car with the engine running and had no insurance has been fined £700.
Frank John Thompson, aged 36, of Lheannag Park, Douglas, also had his licence endorsed with six points by Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that, on February 26, police received a report of a Ford Fiesta at the side of Braaid Road in Braaid, unattended with the engine running.
Thompson’s partner was the registered owner and when police rang her she said that he would be there shortly.
He arrived back at the car and told police he had been moving a different vehicle which had broken down.
He was given five days to produce driving documents but failed to do so.
Checks found that he was not insured to drive the Fiesta.
In court he pleaded guilty to quitting a vehicle with the engine running, failing to produce a driving licence, and having no insurance.
A fourth charge, of failing to produce insurance, was withdrawn.
The court heard that Thompson has a previous conviction for having no insurance in 2012.
He opted to represent himself in court, declining the use of the duty advocate, and said: ’My BMW had broken down and I had numerous calls from the police to move it.’
Thompson said that the battery was dying in the Fiesta so he left the engine running.
Deputy High Bailiff Mr Brooks fined him £650 for having no insurance and £50 for leaving the engine running, with no separate penalty for the failing to produce offence.
He was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
