A mechanic from Douglas has been fined £300 for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
Adam Emil Grela, whose age was not given in court, of Tennis Court, also had his licence endorsed with three penalty points.
He appeared before magistrates for sentencing last week.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court how Grela was stopped by police on Peel Road in Douglas on July 2 while he was driving a BMW.
Three of the tyres were said to be defective, there was heavy corrosion to the vehicle and the exhaust system was only half fitted.
An examination at the test centre deemed the car unfit to be on the road.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander asked for credit to be given for her client’s guilty plea and the fact that he had no previous convictions.
Ms Alexander said that Grela had said he was taking the vehicle to his work to repair after he had saved up enough money and ordered parts. ’He now understands he should have arranged for a tow truck,’ said the advocate.
Magistrates also ordered Grela to pay £50 prosecution costs.
He will pay both the fine and costs at a rate of £50 per week.
