A 20-year-old Douglas man has been fined £800 for failing to report an accident and careless driving.
Carl William Henson, of Selbourne Road, also had his driving licence endorsed with seven points.
Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that the complainant in the case had left his BMW parked on Primrose Avenue in Douglas on October 15.
Henson’s Ford Focus was said to have collided with the BMW then driven away after causing damage to a wheel arch.
A witness who saw the accident left a note on the BMW’s windscreen with her contact details.
The complainant reported the matter to police but on October 26 he saw Henson’s Ford Focus parked near All Saints’ Church on Alexander Drive.
The Focus had damage to its front passenger side so the complainant advised the police.
On November 6, Henson attended a voluntary interview at police headquarters.
He denied being involved in any accident and claimed the damage to his own car was from a collision months ago.
Henson then said ’I reserve my right to silence’ to all other questions.
The court heard that he has no previous convictions.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea.
He said: ’The damage to the BMW was very minor scuffing over the wheel arch.
’Mr Henson says he didn’t realise he made contact with the BMW. We would submit this is at the low end of due care offences.’
Magistrates fined Henson £800 for the failing to report offence and imposed no separate penalty for the careless driving.
He must also pay £50 prosecution costs which he will pay, along with the fine, at a rate of £100 per month.
