A 29-year-old man from Anagh Coar has been fined £350 for being drunk and disorderly.

Gary David Smith, of Anagh Coar Road, admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to Jaks bar on July 25 at 3.10am after staff reported a man acting disorderly.

When officers arrived security staff were restraining Smith on the ground outside the pub.

Smith was shouting and swearing as staff and police tried to get him to calm down.

His disorderly behaviour continued despite efforts to calm him and he was eventually arrested and handcuffed.

Smith then threatened to headbutt an officer as his anger continued.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and said: ’This was a case of that old mix of emotions and alcohol. He has apologised to Jaks’ door staff since and there was no suggestion of physical violence.

’Mr Smith is incredibly sorry.’

The court heard that Smith had suffered a bereavement earlier in the year and is currently on probation for provoking behaviour and property damage.

Mrs Hughes ordered him to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £20 per week.
