A 42-year-old man who urinated in a police cell has been fined £400.
John Steven Dougan admitted being drunk and disorderly and damaging property.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered him to pay £150 compensation for the cleaning of the cell.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that police on patrol saw Dougan arguing with a woman in Duke Street in Douglas on November 28 at 11.25pm.
He was said to be agitated and when police spoke to him he swore at them, telling them where to go.
Dougan, of Strang Close, Douglas, was said to be slurring his words and was unsteady on his feet.
Despite being warned multiple times to calm down he continued his behaviour and was eventually arrested.
At police headquarters he was put in a cell and was then seen on CCTV footage urinating on the floor while making an offensive gesture to the camera.
The court heard that he has a conviction for possession of cannabis in October last year but no offences since 2007 before that.
Defence advocate David Clegg said: ’Mr Dougan would describe himself as being ashamed and he wants to apologise to the police officers.
’The lady was his long-term partner and there was no complaint from her. He says he became agitated when police became involved.’
Mr Clegg went on to say that Dougan had suffered a recent bereavement.
High Bailiff Mrs Hughes also ordered him to pay £125 prosecution costs which he will pay, along with the fine and compensation, at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
