An offender has been fined £350 for being drunk and disorderly.

Kieran Michael Cain was ordered to pay the fine straightaway or face 30 days in prison in default of payment.

The court heard that the 22-year-old is currently paying fines until 2024 and High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said she would not add to those.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court how police were called to Mona Drive in Douglas on June 11 at 7.30pm in relation to another incident.

Officers spoke to Cain at the scene and he was said to be smelling of alcohol, slurring his words, and unsteady on his feet.

He initially left the area but then returned 20 minutes later.

Cain, of Empire Terrace, Douglas, was said to be shouting and swearing and then kicked over a wheelie bin.

He was told to calm down but swore at police and said: ’I’m not going to calm down.’

He was subsequently arrested and in court pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

The court heard that Cain is currently subject to a probation order, imposed in May after he caused £3,000-worth of damage at the Villa Marina complex by kicking in windows.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked the court to deal with the offence by way of a fine and said that his client accepted he would have to serve the days in default if it was made payable forthwith.

’Mr Cain has limited means and has no way of paying forthwith,’ said the advocate.

’He should have just left when he was spoken to by police. There was shouting and swearing but things didn’t turn physical. Hopefully engagement with probation will start showing benefits soon.’

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes told Cain: ’You have a big problem with alcohol. You need to sort your drinking out.

’Not only was this committed during a probation order but while paying fines until 2024.

’One way or another it’s going to be brought home to you that you need to address your offending.’
