Firefighters rescued a person after a kitchen fire at a house in Douglas.

The casualty was found on the ground floor of the smoke-logged property in Willaston.

The person was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew and taken to Noble’s hospital for precautionary checks because of smoke inhalation. Injuries were not believed to be serious.

A fire service spokesman said: ’On arrival the officer in charge confirmed the smoke alarm was sounding and that the property was smoke logged.

’A breathing apparatus team were deployed and quickly found one casualty on the ground floor, rescuing them from the smoke logged property. The fire was confined to the kitchen and was out on arrival.’

The drama happened last night (Sunday)

The spokesman added that ’properly installed smoke alarms play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries’.
