An elderly person is being treated for severe burns after a house fire in the Onchan area this morning.

It was a busy morning for the Douglas Station with a second house fire taking place in Union Mills shortly after. No injuries were sustained in that fire.

Station officer David Cowley said: ’The first incident occurred just before 10am this morning in the Onchan area and required the attendance of police, fire and ambulance resources.

’Upon arrival crews removed one elderly person who had suffered severe burns. ’Immediate medical care was provided in conjunction with the ambulance service who have since transferred the patient to Noble’s Hospital.

’The second incident occurred in the Union Mills area.

Thankfully due to the quick actions of one of the occupants no injuries were sustained. ’The people involved were checked over by paramedics on the scene and have not been required to have been admitted to hospital.

’We would like to remind members of the public of the importance of having working smoke detectors in their properties as working smoke detectors can help save lives.’
