A 26-year-old plumber has been fined £900 after he was thrown out of a pub and swore at police while at the hospital’s accident and emergency department.
Dean Anthony Kinley, of Stenning Place, Castletown, admitted offences of threatening behaviour, provoking behaviour and failing to leave licensed premises.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also banned him from buying or being sold alcohol for three months.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that police were called to the Union pub in Castletown on November 16 at about midnight.
Kinley was said to have been involved in an argument with another man and was subsequently asked to leave the pub by the designated official.
Despite this, he returned three times and was eventually forcibly removed by staff.
Kinley was then said to have been involved in an incident outside which resulted in him being taken to the hospital with a head injury.
Once there he became verbally abusive to police, swearing, with staff refusing to treat him until he calmed down.
Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that the incident at the pub had lasted around 20 minutes.
’Mr Kinley has not got the best recollection of what has occurred,’ said the advocate.
’But he has fully accepted what he has been told.’
Ms Cooil went on to say that Kinley had a long-standing issue with the man he had been arguing with. She continued: ’He has approached the designated official and apologised and is not going back there.
’Alcohol and heightened emotions have got the better of him on that evening.
’The swearing was limited and was towards the police, not towards doctors or nurses.’
The High Bailiff told Kinley: ’You should have left the first time you were asked.
’Offences on licensed premises are always considered to be more serious and the offence is made worse by your behaviour at the hospital.’
The court heard that Kinley is still paying a fine for an assault in March and he will pay the latest fine after that one has been paid.
He must also pay £125 prosecution costs and will pay all amounts at a rate of £30 per week.
