Police were called to an incident involving a knife at St Ninian’s Lower School at Bemahague this morning.

Officers were called to the school following concerns that a pupil had a knife, the Constabulary has confirmed.

A knife was recovered at the scene and a pupil from the school is helping police with their inquiries.

'Staff did a great job and all pupils were kept safe,' a police spokesman said.

Responding to speculation on social media, he clarified that a Taser was not used during the incident.

In a statement, the school said: 'We can confirm there was an isolated incident at St Ninian’s Lower School this morning which was dealt with swiftly by our staff and the police.

'Please be assured all students and staff are safe and continuing the school day as normal.’

Several parents posted on social media that there were reports of an incident involving a knife and that the students were moved to a safe area until the police arrived.
