Police investigating a car parked in Peel were surprised to find a man in the boot.
Officers came across the car parked in Poortown Road at 8.10pm on Saturday (August 4) and checks revealed it had no vehicle licence or insurance.
When officers opened the boot, they found Thomas Corrie Irvine Boswell, of Hotslip, in Sittingbourne, inside.
Boswell, aged 34, threw out a joint and when asked if there were any drugs in the car, he said there was a ’small block of hash’. Mr Swain said the drug had not been weighed.
Meanwhile, Boswell told police he had insurance but it was later found the flexi-cover policy he held did not cover him to drive the car he was found with.
Defence advocate Matthew Wilshaw said his client was visiting friends and family in the island.
’He has visited the island in the past but has no fixed abode on the Isle of Man. He admitted the drugs were his, he hasn’t tried to hide the fact he had it.’
Mr Wilshaw explained his client had ’misunderstood’ his insurance policy. He said Boswell had been ’actively trying to get the vehicle through its Manx test or back to the UK so he can tax the vehicle’.
Boswell, who admitted the charges, was fined £700 for cannabis possession and driving without insurance or a vehicle licence. His licence was endorsed with eight penalty points.
