A serving police officer from Peel has appeared in court accused of a string of thefts.

Detective Constable Michael Stephen Crompton, aged 45, is charged with 20 counts of theft and one count of concealing, disguising, converting, transferring, or removing criminal property. He is yet to enter pleas to the charges.

The offences are alleged to have been committed between January 2014 and October 2017. He is being prosecuted by advocate Jason Stanley and was represented on Tuesday by Louise Cooil.

Ms Cooil asked for a two-week adjournment to allow time for Mr Crompton to seek legal advice as this was his first appearance.

The case was adjourned until January 21 with bail granted and conditions that he live at home and not leave the island without permission.
