A serving police officer has denied an offence of dangerous driving while he was on duty.

Paul John Robinson, from Port Erin, is alleged to have committed the offence while driving a police car at the junction of Ballaquayle Road and Bray Hill on November 27.

Mr Robinson, who is 42, said that he was responding to an ’ongoing’ situation when the alleged incident occurred.

Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood submitted that the case was suitable for a summary court trial.

However, defence advocate Jim Travers said that, although the case was borderline, he was submitting that it should go to the Court of General Gaol Delivery for trial.

Magistrates agreed to decline jurisdiction and committal proceedings will take place on September 16.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500.
