The police are appealing for witnesses to an altercation between an officer and a male in Douglas.

Officers said the altercation occurred on Friday May 31 at about 1.30pm outside the Isle of Man Bank on Regent Street.

A statement said the incident happened when the officer attempted to detain the individual.

It added: ’A number of members of the public are believed to have witnessed this altercation.

In relation to the incident being reported and shared on social media, Chief Constable Gary Roberts tweeted: ’The subtleties of language can be very important. Altercation or someone resisting a young officer and attempting to make off, as she sought to make an arrest?’
