A long-serving police officer was this week committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery after denying a string of thefts.

Kevin Scott Williams, aged 49, of Port-e-Chee Avenue, Douglas, will appear at the higher court on a date to be decided.

We previously reported earlier hearings in which constable Williams denied falsifying details on a Police Federation cheque stub on January 23, 2014, and failing to disclose debits made payable on a balance sheet to himself in October 2014.

He has also denied thefts of £3,422 on May 8, 2014, £500 on May 8, 2014, £3,094 on August 5, 2015, £1,450 on August 5, 2015, £4,762 on July 27, 2016, £750 on July 27, 2016, £70,026 between December 2011 and January 2017, and £10,750 between December 2011 and January 2017, all from Police Federation funds.

He appeared before the Deputy High Bailiff on Tuesday.

He has also previously entered not guilty pleas to accusations of stealing a watch worth £6,750 during a search of an address, a laptop computer worth £819 from the Department of Home Affairs, and £480 in cash from the Department of Home Affairs.

He also denies a deception allegation relating to outdoor clothing and climbing equipment which he is accused of using the police budget to purchase for his own use.

Constable Williams has served more than 20 years in the Manx force but is currently suspended.

He was head of the search team and also chairman of the Isle of Man Police Federation before his suspension.
