A 21-year-old man from Baldrine was this week fined £250 for possession of class ’B’ drug ketamine.

Max Julian Turner, of Laxey Road, admitted the offence and was also ordered by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecutor James Robinson told the court that Turner was spoken to by police at 1.30am on June 23 at St George’s Walk in Douglas.

Turner and another man were seen near a bin and were detained for a drugs search.

Turner told the police he had a small wrap containing ketamine which he said he bought for £20.

The court heard that he has no previous convictions, but a caution in 2015 for possessing cannabis.

Defence advocate Kate Alexander said: ’When police stopped Mr Turner his friend was the worse for wear and he was trying to help him.

’He is not a routine drug user.

’He was going through a rocky patch in a relationship and this was a one-off.’

Mrs Hughes ordered Turner to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £100 per month.
