A prisoner has been given 14 weeks in custody after he threw a cup of urine in the face of the deputy governor.
Alistair John Cowin, aged 37, is already serving a sentence at the prison and is not due for release until November 13.
The 14-week sentence will run concurrently to his current sentence.
Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that Cowin was in his cell on March 3 at 9.30am when the deputy governor was delivering medication to inmates.
Cowin threw the cup of his urine at the man with it striking him in the face.
When interviewed about the incident Cowin said he had been holding the cup for about half an hour. He said it was not premeditated but he said he intended to throw it at the next person who came through the door who he didn’t like.
He then expressed his delight at seeing the urine dripping down the man’s face.
Defence advocate Matthew Wilshaw said that Cowin was interviewed about the incident in April as well as another incident where he had thrown a cup of coffee over someone.
Mr Wilshaw said that Cowin had then been sentenced to 14 weeks in jail for the coffee incident but nothing had been done about the urine incident.
The advocate said: ’Mr Cowin submits that the powers that be are trying to keep him in prison longer than he should be. This matter should have been sentenced on the same day.
’He has served those 14 weeks. Why has it taken so long to be dealt with?’
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that the charge had been brought two days before the limitation period, which she described as ’unsatisfactory’, and said that she was taking into account that Cowin should have been sentenced for the coffee and urine incidents at the same time.
