A man from Scotland has been charged with trying to smuggle £200,000 worth of cocaine into the island.

Russell Armit Nelson Collins, aged 57, of Kirkland Drive, Kelloholm, Sanquhar, is accused of production of the drug to the island and a charge of possession with intent to supply.

Police officers found two packages inside a secret compartment in a car at Douglas Sea Terminal on Friday, May 17.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil asked for an adjournment saying that a psychiatric report may be needed regarding Mr Collins’ fitness to plead.

No bail application was made and he was remanded in custody.

Collins will next appear before magistrates on Thursday, June 13. He will appear via video link from the Isle of Man prison.
