A teenager from Onchan has been fined £300 for possessing £56 worth of cannabis.
Ryan Charles Moffitt, of Greeba Drive, admitted having 2.8 grams of the drug which he had hidden behind a barn.
Police found Moffitt’s car parked but he was coming from behind a barn.
There was a smell of cannabis and he was detained for a drug search. Nothing was found on him but the drug was found behind the barn.
In interview Moffitt admitted the cannabis was his, saying it was for personal use.
He said he was meeting a friend but had told them not to come when he had seen the police.
It was said that Moffitt had a previous caution for a similar matter.
Defence advocate Peter Taylor asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and co-operation with the police.
’It was a relatively small amount,’ said the advocate. ’He has told me this has been a wake up call for him. He has given up smoking cannabis completely.’
Magistrates ordered Moffitt to pay £50 costs and he will pay at a rate of £100 per month.
