The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue service has been called out three times over the last couple of days.
On arrival crews discovered the contents of a tumble dryer on fire in a utility room at the rear of the property which was quickly extinguished by a breathing apparatus team using high pressure hosereel equipment
A spokesman from the fires service added:
’We would like to remind the public to remove the lint from the trap after every load of clothes dried; do not cover the vent or any other opening; ensure the vent pipe is free of kinks and is not crushed in any way; Only use recommended vent pipes, and not improvised ones; Ensure there is ample ventilation around the area of the dryer; do not put rags or materials into your tumble dryer if they have been used to soak up flammable liquids, cooking oils or other oil-based products.’
On arrival crews discovered a flat in the property which was smoke logged due to burnt foodstuffs. The occupant of the flat had returned from a night out and fell asleep whilst cooking. Thankfully, on hearing the fire alarm, an alert neighbour was able to assist the occupant from the property prior to our arrival.
Ramsey crews were mobilised again just a couple of hours later to an incident of domestic flooding within the basement of a property on Jurby Road, Ramsey.
The occupants had managed to stop the water prior to the crews' arrival. Crews isolated the electrics to the affected area and ensured the property was safe.
Crews were in attendance for approximately 25 minutes.
