Police confirmed that house fires in Ramsey, which saw three people being rescued, are ’not believed suspicious’.

The statement was issued on Wednesday giving further details that a large house fire occurred in Glen Elfin Road, Ramsey, which spread to a nearby building and two vehicles.

This took place at approximately 5.15pm on Sunday (January 13).

Fire crews from the town, Laxey and Douglas were called to the scene after receiving reports of people trapped in properties.

The trapped occupants were rescued from the first floor window of one house with others escaping the building themselves.

All casualties were treated on scene for smoke inhalation by the Isle of Man Ambulance service.

Station officer, Matt Tyrer, said: ’Smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries.

’If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.’
