A Willaston man has been convicted of common assault and damaging property.
Jonathan James Elliott, aged 24, of Tynwald Road, admitted punching a man who was at his ex-partner’s house.
Prosecutor James Robinson told the court how, on March 14, Elliott’s former partner was at the home she used to share with Elliott in Lakeside Road, Douglas, with another man.
She phoned Elliott to ask him for the wifi password which she had forgotten, but he asked her: ’What? So you can give it to someone in my house?’
Later that night Elliott was said to have kicked open the front door and stormed in, punching the man then putting him in a headlock before he managed to flee.
After being arrested Elliott told police he had looked through the window and the ’red mist’ had descended. He said he asked the man to leave but said he had refused so he had lost his temper.
Elliott’s advocate Paul Glover submitted a basis of plea but it was not accepted by the prosecution as the facts of the incident could not be agreed.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ruled that a Newton hearing would have to be held on May 16 to settle the dispute over the facts. Bail was granted.
