A man has appeared in court and been remanded in custody after being found driving a car with false plates.

Road traffic officers stopped the man on the Mountain Road on Friday after a scan revealed the vehicle registration that was nonexistent.

Officers said the man, who is believed to be local, ’refused to furnish us with any form of details’.

A police statement added: ’Enquiries showed amongst other things the vehicle was untaxed and we believe uninsured. The vehicle was seized and the drivers behaviour left us with no alternative but to detain him.

’He was interviewed yesterday and due to his actions was placed before court this morning.

’Today he again refused to furnish his details and has been remanded in custody.

’Now the lesson here is if you are stopped driving your vehicle and we require you to provide your details, like a certain footwear firm would say "Just do it".’
