Firefighters were called out to deal with a kitchen fire in Onchan.

Two residents were checked over by paramedics for smoke inhalation as a precaution following the blaze at a first floor flat on Ballachrink Drive yesterday afternoon (Tuesday).

Three fire engines from Douglas were called to the scene at just before 2.15pm.

Firefighters quickly established that everyone in the flat was safe and accounted for.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a high pressure hose reel.

A positive pressure ventilation fan and a thermal imaging camera were used to ventilate the property and check for hot spots.

The fire in the flat’s kitchen was found to have started when an electric hob was accidentally turned on setting fire to flammable materials resting on top.

Crews remained in attendance for one hour.
