The police have said that repairs to Richmond Hill, the main link with the south of the island from Douglas, will need to wait for warmer weather.

Taking to social media, officers said the repair works needed to fix the road, which contractor Colas carried out maintenance works on in August last year, require warmer weather.

The updates comes as police revealed the Department of Infrastructure has closed the overtaking lane for vehicles heading south as drivers were refusing to stick to the temporary 30mph speed limit.

A police statement said: ’The DoI has arranged to cone off the overtaking lane on Richmond Hill.

’It is intended to carry out the installation of the traffic management from 7pm this evening, January 12.

’The mobile matrix sign will be utilised to reinforce the 30mph message to motorists.’

The police also asked for drivers to be patient with slower vehicles but believe it will only two minutes to journeys to and from the south.

However they added: ’It could be worse, the road could be closed.’
