The Douglas RNLI has dropped its plans to redevelop its lifeboat boathouse on the South Quay.

The withdrawn plans (16/00728/B) had been to convert the existing boathouse into a crew facility, demolish the existing slipway and construct a pontoon berth for a new Shannon-class lifeboat to replace its current Mersey-class one.

The RNLI told the Manx Independent: ’There were some concerns raised with the proposal and it was not pursued further.

’A considerable amount of time has elapsed since this original application [in 2016], it is now deemed withdrawn whilst we explore other options.

’Douglas RNLI crew continues to operate effectively with the Mersey class lifeboat from the current site.

’We continue to explore viable shoreworks solutions for the future, this includes consideration of a location at Fort Anne Jetty.’
