A 31-year-old chartered surveyor from Paisley has appeared in court charged with bringing heroin to the island on the ferry.

Ross Alexander Cameron, of Barterholm Road, is accused of production of drugs to the island and possession with intent to supply.

He is also charged with possessing an offensive weapon, namely a metal hammer-like axe. Mr Cameron was arrested with another man on March 28 as they disembarked the Ben my Chree from Heysham in a Vauxhall Astra.

Two packages containing 29.8 grams and 31.4 grams of heroin, valued at between £6,000 and £15,000 were found in the car.

Mr Cameron was said to have denied the offences in police interview saying that he did not know the drugs were in the car.

The case was adjourned until April 3 pending further investigations regarding the second man arrested.
