A court case involved a Douglas man accused of receiving £56,000 worth of heroin in the post has been delayed.

Liam Patrick Flanagan, of Drury Terrace, was due to be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on Friday after pleading guilty in a summary court to production of heroin to the island, production of heroin to the island with intent to supply, and possession of cannabis.

However, representing himself in court, Flanagan said that he had not intended to pass the drugs on to anyone and that he wanted to be caught.

Deemster Alastair Montgomerie said that, if that was the case, he should not have pleaded guilty to the ’intent to supply’ charge.

Mr Montgomerie said that the case would have to go back to the summary court for Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to decide if that guilty plea should be vacated.

Flanagan will appear in summary court tomorrow (Tuesday). Convictions on the production of heroin charge and possession of cannabis charges remain and Flanagan will appear at the Court of General Gaol Delivery in respect of those two charges on April 10.

He has been remanded in custody.
