A man has been fined £150 for stealing about £45 of clothes from Strand Street shop Dealz.
Chaney Gallagher, of Mona Street, Douglas, admitted the theft, which took place on September 29.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court Gallagher was said by a manager in the shop to be behaving suspiciously.
He left the store and afterwards six or seven empty coat hangers were found in the area where Gallagher had been.
CCTV footage showed him leaving the store with two bulging bags.
A stock check confirmed that six items were missing.
He was interviewed by police and said: ’Can’t I just pay for the items?’
Gallagher, aged 36, was said to be wearing a camouflage jumper which had been taken from the store at the time, which he said his mother had given him.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander said that only a couple of the items had been for her client.
Ms Alexander said that Gallagher could not offer an explanation for why he had committed the theft.
Magistrates also ordered that Gallagher pay £50 prosecution costs.
