A teenager has been put on probation after stealing fake tan from Boots.
Chloe Elaine Muldoon pleaded guilty to a joint theft along with a juvenile who cannot be named due to her age.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that 18-year-old Muldoon went into Boots with the juvenile on September 18 at 1.41pm.
The pair were seen on CCTV footage taking lipstick, a facemask, body spray and the fake tan, valued at a total of £41.99, before leaving without paying.
They were arrested later and Muldoon admitted taking the fake tan but said she had no knowledge of any other products being stolen.
As the pair were jointly charged they were both held equally responsible for the total theft.
The court heard that Muldoon, who lives in Rheast Barrule, Castletown, is already paying fines until the year 2022 in relation to previous offences.
A probation report said that Muldoon had said she was reluctant to do community service so a probation order was deemed the most suitable sentence.
The teenager told probation that the theft had not been pre-planned and was a ’stupid mistake’.
She admitted picking up the fake tan and putting it in the juvenile’s bag.
Muldoon said that no alcohol or drugs were involved and that she was embarrassed by the offence.
The probation report said that she would benefit from probation addressing a number of areas, including her ongoing use of cannabis.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander said: ’Ms Muldoon doesn’t have an appalling record but it’s not a great one either.’
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes asked how Muldoon ever expected to hold down a job when she was not willing to do community service.
Ms Alexander replied: ’I don’t think she has the maturity to realise that’s the way the world works.’
Mrs Hughes sentenced Muldoon to 12 months probation while the juvenile was given a 12-month conditional discharge.
