A Castletown man has been fined £170 by magistrates after being caught speeding through Laxey.

James Mckelvey, aged 24, of Milner Terrace, was stopped by police on Ramsey Road on May 28.

Officers had clocked him driving at 47mph in the 30mph zone.

At Douglas Courthouse on Thursday Mckelvey admitted the offence.

His advocate Deborah Myerscough described it as a ’lapse of judgement’.

She told magistrates: ’He is mortified to be before the court for this offence.’

Mckelvey was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £50.

And he had his driving licence endorsed with four penalty points.
