A 45-year-old woman has been fined £350 after admitting threatening behaviour.

Sarah Louise Unsworth swore at a man in Strand Street, Douglas, on May 2.

She was also ordered by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to pay £50 prosecution costs.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court how Unsworth approached the man outside Dealz at 2.45pm.

She was said to be shouting and swearing at him.

He walked off but Unsworth, who lives in Hazel Close, Douglas, was said to have continued her abuse.

She underwent a voluntary interview with the police later and said that the man was the ex-husband of a friend.

She said she had bought his children Liverpool FC wristbands and had not been thanked for them.

The court heard that her last conviction was in 2010 when she received a conditional discharge.

Defence advocate David Reynolds asked for credit to be given for Unsworth’s guilty plea.

’She tells me she is very ashamed of her actions,’ said the advocate.

Mr Reynolds said that Unsworth had said that the man had been unhappy when she had tried to pass a phone to his children so they could say hello to their mother.

The advocate continued: ’She accepts he was telling her to go away and she didn’t.’

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes told Unsworth: ’Not only was it foul language in front of the man and his children, it was in front of people going about their business on a Saturday afternoon in Strand Street.’

Unsworth will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week deducted from benefits.
