A Douglas teenager has admitted smashing a window with a baseball bat due to a vendetta with another man.

David Anthony Teare, of Buck’s Road, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing property damage and will be sentenced on July 25 after the preparation of a probation report.

Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on June 22 at 12.40am, Teare was outside an address in Castle Drive in Douglas.

The 18-year-old was said to have been ringing the doorbell several times, but by the time the occupant got out of bed to answer the door Teare was gone.

However, Teare was then seen returning holding a baseball bat over his shoulder which he then used to smash a window before leaving the area.

The occupant told police that he had looked out of an upstairs window just as Teare was smashing the glass and had recognised him.

When arrested and interviewed Teare handed in a prepared statement saying that he had not committed the crime.

Mr Swain said the incident had ’all the hallmarks of a personal dispute between the two parties’.

Defending the teenager in court, his advocate Paul Rodgers said that the facts were accepted by his client as presented by the prosecution.

Mr Rodgers asked for an adjournment to allow time for the preparation of a probation report before sentencing takes place and made an application for bail.

The prosecutor said that he had no objection to bail with strict conditions.

The court heard that Teare was to reside with his mother at her Springfield Road address in Douglas while on bail.

He was also ordered not to enter Castle Drive or contact the complainant as part of his bail conditions.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that her court sentencing powers would be sufficient for sentencing and accepted juridiction.

Mrs Hughes ruled that the probation report should consider all options, including custody.
