A teenager has admitted ordering class B drug ketamine on the dark web and having it sent to him.

Joshua David Quayle, of Ellam Park, Ramsey, admitted production of the drug to the island as well as possession of it with intent to supply.

The 18-year-old will be sentenced on January 12 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate James Robinson told the court how a suspicious package was intercepted at the Isle of Man Post Office sorting office on November 5 last year.

It was addressed to a woman at Waverly Terrace in Ramsey but the post office received several phone calls from Quayle enquiring about its whereabouts.

The package was opened and inside police found two DVD cases which contained snap bags with a white powder inside.

As Quayle was arrested he told police: ’I’m not surprised. I was expecting to be arrested.’

The package contained two snap bags, one with 32.67 grams of ketamine, with a purity of 36%, valued at between £1,306 and £1,633, and the other containing 20.57 grams, with a purity of 34 per cent, valued at between £822 and £1,028.

When interviewed he gave ’no comment’ responses to all questions.

Quayle was granted police bail then contacted police to attend a voluntary second interview.

He then admitted ordering the package on the dark web and said he was going to pay £800 in Bitcoin for it.

Quayle said he was going to sell some of the ketamine to pay the web seller.

Mr Robinson submitted that the case was suitable to remain in summary court for sentencing.

Defence advocate Kate Alexander asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ordered that the report consider all options, including custody, and granted bail in the sum of £500 with conditions that Quayle reside at his home address, contact probation, and not leave the island without court consent.
