A teenage provisional licence holder who was driving unsupervised has been fined £220.
Tyler Reef Shanon, of The Bretney, Jurby, admitted a licence offence as well as failing to notify a change of vehicle ownership.
Magistrates also endorsed the 17-year-old’s licence with two points.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Shanon was stopped by police on November 30 at 11.30pm while driving a Vauxhall Astra outside the old Isle of Man Bank in Kirk Michael.
He wasn’t displaying L plates but only held a provisional licence and, although he had a passenger with him, they were not qualified to supervise him.
The vehicle was also not registered to Shanon and he told police he had only bought it recently. The vehicle was subsequently seized by police.
Defence advocate Emily Johnson said: ’Unfortunately this was a situation where Mr Shanon had very recently bought the vehicle but the seller had not got the log book and had applied for another.
’At the time he also believed his friend who was the passenger was a suitable driver.’
The court heard that Shanon has no previous convictions.
Magistrates fined him £120 for the licence offence and £100 for the ownership offence.
They also ordered the teenager to pay £50 prosecution costs which he will pay, along with the fine, at a rate of £50 per week.
