A Douglas teenager has been fined £250 for possessing £58 worth of cannabis.

Lucas Winchester, aged 19, of Brunswick Road, admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.

The court heard how a search warrant was executed at Winchester’s home on December 9 with 10.2 grams of cannabis being found in a drawer of a bedside table.

It was said that Winchester was not eligible for the Drug Arrest Referral Scheme (DARS) which is offered for some first time offences as he had already been issued with it previously and also had a similar caution in April.

Advocate David Clegg said that his client had co-operated with police and that the cannabis found was ’left over’ as Winchester had since given up cannabis.

He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £15 per week.
