A teenager has been put on probation for six months for having £100-worth of cannabis.
Morgan John Ritchie, of Derby Road, Douglas, admitted the offence after 17.8 grams of the drug was found in his possession.
Prosecuting advocate James Robinson told the court how 17-year-old Ritchie had initially been detained in relation to another matter on July 14 at Queen Street in Douglas.
Police found six wrapped amounts of cannabis on him, valued at just over £100.
When interviewed he answered ’no comment’ to all questions.
The court heard that he has a ’substantial’ record.
Defence advocate Jane Gray asked for credit to be given for her client’s co-operation with the police.
She said: ’There was a disturbance in the car park. It is not suggested Mr Ritchie was a part of that. A number of youths were involved but police decided to do a search. He said that he bought it in wraps and used cannabis to self-medicate.’
Ritchie was said to suffer from anxiety.
A probation report said that Ritchie came from a ’difficult family background’ and had self-referred to Motiv8.
Magistrates sentenced him to the six-month probation order but decided against awarding any prosecution costs due to Ritchie’s financial situation.
