A Douglas teenager has been given a two-year conditional discharge after admitting an offence of permitting premises to be used for smoking drugs.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on August 26 at 12.30am, police attended Adam Lee Hine’s flat in Marathon Road while they were searching for a missing person.
Officers reported smelling cannabis on the premises and a search found £51.74 worth of the drug.
Mr Swain said there was no direct evidence linking it to anyone in the flat.
Hine, aged 19, said he had invited eight or nine people around for drinks and they had smoked cannabis knowing it was an offence.
Advocate Kate Alexander asked for credit to be given to her client for his guilty plea and co-operation with police.
Ms Alexander said: ’Mr Hine appears not to have appreciated that having a few friends over and smoking cannabis together was so serious.’
Passing sentence, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said: ’I accept you didn’t understand the seriousness of the charge but you certainly do now.’
