A teenager who picked up a knife during a row with his mother has been sentenced to probation and community service.

Cameron Reekie pleaded guilty to provoking behaviour and making threats to damage property.

Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith sentenced him to 12 months probation and 40 hours of community service.

As we reported in coverage of previous his court appearances, the incident took place on August 10 at Reekie’s where he used to live with his mother in Santon.

His home address is now Broadway, Douglas.

His mother had asked him to move some of his property away from the front of their house as the local authority had given them 10 days to move it.

But the 18-year-old swore and told her: ’Don’t start with me. I’m in a bad mood.’

He then threatened to smash his mother’s iPad and phone before holding up a knife which he had pulled from a block in the kitchen.

His mother told police she felt scared and upset during the incident.

When interviewed later Reekie told police he had never intended to hurt his mother, despite holding up the knife, but accepted she would have been scared.

Reekie was previously sentenced to community service in February after he punched his mother’s partner and was found to have a knife on him. He completed 100 hours for common assault and possessing an offensive weapon.

Defence advocate Paul Glover referred to an e-mail from probation services which said that Reekie had been deemed suitable for community service after it had previously been unclear if he was.

Deputy High Bailiff Mr Arrowsmith warned Reekie that this was the second time he had appeared in court for an incident involving a knife.

He was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs which he will pay at a rate of £20 per week, deducted from benefits.
