A TT visitor has been jailed after he rode his bike to the island while disqualified.
Luke Martin Ireland, of Centurian Way, Birmingham, came to the attention of police in the island after he crashed his bike on the Mountain Road.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how, on May 22, the 29-year-old was handed an interim disqualification in relation to drink-driving charges in Birmingham.
However, eight days later, on May 30, police were called to an accident on the Mountain Road where Ireland told them he had fallen off his bike going around a bend.
Checks found that he had been disqualified which also invalidated his insurance.
Unscathed
Defence advocate Winston Taylor said his client had fallen off his bike unscathed after misjudging a bend.
’Regarding the disqualification there seems to be a little confusion,’ Mr Winston said.
’The incident in the UK took place in February but is yet to be dealt with.
’He was told his licence would be frozen for six months, an interim disqualification until July 19.
’He wasn’t aware it also applied in the Isle of Man and had booked the trip some time ago.’
Magistrates asked Ireland if he had ridden his bike to the ferry in England and he admitted that he had.
On Thursday last week, Magistrates jailed Ireland for 28 days and disqualified him for three months.
