The Department of Infrastructure has reopened the Mountain Road.

It shut on Thursday evening because of wintry conditions and it had been originally stated that it would stay closed until at least Monday lunchtime with further icy and snowy conditions expected.

However, the DoI reopened the route on Saturday morning at 10am.

In will remain chilly through the day but generally dry with sunny spells.

There is still a risk of a few wintry showers catching the southwest corner of the island. Temperatures only rising to about 4°C, but feeling colder in the fresh to strong northerly wind.

Another cold night tonight, with temperatures falling close to ZERO in many places.

Prolonged wintry showers are forecast for Sunday.
